The number of YouTube style user-generated videos viewed by people online shot through the roof in 2007 to more than 22 billion, according to an AccuStream survey reported by Marketing Charts.
The 22.4 billion user generated online video views represents a massive 70% increase on 2006 levels, according to AccuStream.
And 2008 is expected to be another big year for user generated online video, with AccuStream forecasting views to increase by a further 52% to around 34 billion.
It is estimated that more than a million user generated videos were added to the core online video sites such as YouTube, AOLUncut, Yahoo Video and Broadcaster.com. Of those, the lion’s share – some 800,000 – were added to YouTube.
Interestingly, however, older videos had a substantial audience, with 20% of total views generated in 2007 delivered by videos published in 2006 or before.
