It may have been taken over by Facebook chat but Gmail is still a pretty useful IM manager. And if you’re using it, you should be aware of how to adjust the settings.

There might be some people who you don’t want to reveal your online status to or you may just want to more tightly control your instant messaging contacts.

To do so, head to Gmail, and then to the settings menu. Then, go to the “chat” tab.

There, you’ll be able to not only turn chat on or off, but also specifically pick a number of different settings including call settings and the subsequent settings for cameras and microphones.
