Internet retail giant Amazon sold more online books than hard copy versions on Christmas Day, the company announced last week.
“On Christmas Day, for the first time ever, customers purchased more Kindle books than physical books,” it said in a statement. It also said the Amazon Kindle device was “the most gifted item in Amazon’s history”.
However, no actual sales results have been released.
Amazon has been associated with hard copy books for years, but has moved into the electronic book format recently with the release of its Kindle device. According to Forrester Research, the device controls 60% of the eReader market, followed by the Sony Reader which holds 35%.
