Google Chrome has managed to grab third place in the internet browser wars second only to Internet Explorer and Firefox, new figures released by Net Applications show.

The data reveals despite Apple’s Safari browser growing from 4.36% to 4.46%, Chrome grew by 0.7% to 4.63%, while Firefox fell from 24.72% to 24.61%.

Forrester analyst Sheri McLeish said in a statement the announcement was not very surprising, and that Google will continue to see growth in Chrome over the next year.

“Chrome is still in its early days and we have seen Google ink a deal with Sony to have Chrome installed on its laptops, so more traditional channels to get browsers on people’s computers will also spur its adoption,” she said.

And while Internet Explorer remains on top with 62.69%, it has lost 7% of its share over the last 12 months.
