The US Government must take more action in protecting the internet, industry experts have told the Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee.
A number of analysts have gathered to inform the Government that more regulation could be the only method by which both public and private sectors will face cyber threats.
“Cyber has become so important to the lives of our citizens and the functioning of our economy that gone are the days when Silicon Valley could say hands off to a government role,” Michael McConnell, former director of national intelligence, told the committee.
The committee has been attempting to create legislation which could enable Governments and businesses to work together to protect critical computer systems, but so far it has been met with opposition from those who claim regulation will burden the industry.
