Telstra have announced they will release a new “ultimate” wireless dongle and double the speeds of their wireless network by the end of the year.
The Next G wireless broadband network speeds will be boosted and the network updated in regional and metropolitan areas throughout the year.
“Telstra will make this new technology available in 100 selected regional towns and cities at the same time as many capital cities, underlining our commitment to provide the best technology to Australians no matter where they live,” chief executive David Thodey said in a statement.
A release date and a price for the dongle are yet to be released but Telstra confirmed broadband plans would be offered at the same prices.
The telco giant is focusing on rolling the upgrade out in regional areas, where wireless is the primary broadband service.
Launceston, Albury-Wodonga, Broome, Bathurst, Alice Springs and Mount Barker are the first regional cities in line for updated networks and after that the rollout will depend on customer demand.
