Software group Mozilla has upgraded the Firefox browser with a new update that adds crash protection when using the Flash plugin.

The Firefox 3.6.4 update isolates third-party plugins when they either crash or freeze. This means that if a particular video using these plugins crashes, the entire browser won’t be taken down.

Mozilla said in a statement that up to a third of crashes are caused by third party plugins. The new feature will keep portions of a website running while others are shut down, while refreshing a page will restart the plugin content.

It added that support for the Mac OS X platform has been delayed due to the major changes needed to upgrade the browser.
