Online retailing giant Amazon has announced that any user of the Kindle eReader will be able to access the New York Times website for free.

The NYT has just introduced a paywall structure for users, requiring paid subscriptions for readers who want to view more than 20 free articles every month.

“Customers love reading The New York Times on their Kindles,” Russ Grandinetti, vice president of Kindle Content said in a statement.

“Given The Times‘ transition to a digital subscription model, we’re excited to be able to offer Kindle subscribers online access to all the digital content available at NYTimes.com at no additional cost.”

The New York Times also said the Kindle audience is a “loyal and important” one for the company.

Amazon added the New York Times is the best-selling paper in the Kindle store.
