Nokia chief executive Stephen Elop has confirmed to the Wall Street Journal that the company is not for sale, and that rumours saying so are “completely groundless”.

“Nokia is not for sale,” he said in an interview.

Rumours suggesting the company was seeking buyers came as sources indicated a deal was being organised with Microsoft, coming after the two companies organised a deal to put Windows software on Nokia phones.

However, other rumours posted on various tech publications suggest that Nokia may be searching for a buyer for at least one part of its business.
