The United States’ Federal Trade Commission is investigating Google’s Android operating system, according to a report from the Wall Street Journal.
While Google has already confirmed the FTC has expressed interest in the company, and that it will work alongside the department, the new report says Android and search functions are a key target.
The report claims the FTC is investigating whether Google stops rival handset makers using Android from adding competing services, and if Google takes data from competitors.
Google executive chairman Eric Schmidt is set to appear before the Senate next month to answer questions before a subcommittee for a hearing, although that panel is unrelated to the FTC investigation.
