US holiday spending increased by 15% compared to the previous corresponding period, new figures from ComScore reveal.

The data shows consumers spent $US24.6 billion online in the first 39 days in the holiday season, up 15% from last year.

The figures also show $US5.9 billion was spent in the week ending December 9, with six individual days seeing more than $US1 billion spent.

Cyber Monday was at the forefront there, with spending at $US1.25 billion.

The move comes as more consumers are spending money online. With American unemployment still hovering around 10%, more consumers are looking for bargains.
