Credit card processing firm Global Security has been decertified by Visa after suffering a security breach that may have compromised up to 1.5 million cards over the weekend.
According to Forbes, up to 1.5 million Visa and MasterCard numbers and expiry dates may have been compromised during the breach, however the company does not believe that names, addresses or social security numbers were stolen.
ZDNet reports that the Global Security system is limited to North America, and that the impact on Australian businesses and consumers would therefore be minimal.
The news comes less than a week after the outgoing FBI cybersecurity chief admitted that the agency is “not winning” the war on cybercrime.
