Fortescue Metals Group might be in the process of replacing its BlackBerrys for Nokia Lumia 800s running Windows Phone 7, according to reports.

Delimiter is reporting that as many as 600 staff have already been switched over, amid speculation the mining company is looking at abandoning the platform altogether.

If the speculation is correct, it would mean Fortescue Metals is joining US government departments and major international companies such as Halliburton in abandoning the troubled smartphone and messaging platform.

The news comes just days after speculation emerged that BlackBerry maker Research in Motion is examining the possibility of selling its hardware business in order to focus on messaging platforms.
