While the global economic turmoil continues to remain unsteady, one survey says the majority of Australians say they are positive about their financial situations.

A survey conducted by mortgage broker Mortgage Choice finds 74% of respondents see their finances as either solid or reasonable/moderate, and of mortgage holders 61% see their finances as reasonable.

The 2008 Financial Temperature Check Survey also reveals 36% of Australians view their finances as improving.

Mortgage Choice senior corporate affairs manager Kristy Sheppard says the results are encouraging.

“With all the talk surrounding high living costs, mortgage stress, mortgage arrears, low consumer sentiment and the like, Australians are fairly positive. Interestingly, mortgage holders are actually more positive than those without,” she said.
