The revenue generated by paid downloads from the Google Play app store per month was 137% higher in August than in January, according to new figures.
The figures, released by analytics firm App Annie, reveal that for every $1 of revenue generated from app sales in January 2012, the app store generated $2.37 in August.
There were also around 177,750 apps released from January to June 2012 on the Google Play marketplace, averaging out to around 828 new apps per day, or three new apps every five minutes, meaning significantly increased competition for Android app developers.
The figures were collated from data collected through the company’s analytics software, and include both paid downloads and revenue from in-app purchases.
