Google Australia has announced the launch of a startup accelerator program targeted at AI-focused businesses.
The Google for Startups Accelerator: AI First program is — in addition to being a bit of a mouthful — a 10-week accelerator specifically for AI and machine learning Aussie startups at the seed and Series A stages of their business.
According to Google Australia, the program aims to foster local innovation, and builds upon the tech giant’s other initiatives in the space such as AI Sprint and Google Certificates.
In addition to being equity-free, the accelerator boasts several other benefits. These include:
- Mentorship and hands-on guidance from Google AI experts
- Technical support through in-depth sessions on AI tools and infrastructure
- Free access to cloud credits for eligible startups.
The program also offers a Founders’ Network, allowing opportunities to connect and collaborate with other AI startups both locally and globally.
Additionally, practical bootcamps will cover topics such as UX/product design, marketing, sales, leadership, and setting effective objectives.
“Australia is a trailblazer in technology, and has the potential to be a global leader in AI innovation. With the Digital Future Initiative, we’re committed to fostering that potential, ” Scott Riddle, strategic partner manager for Google Australia and New Zealand, said to SmartCompany.
“We’re launching a new accelerator to give AI-focused startups support, mentorship and resources to scale rapidly and responsibly. We invite startups to join us and help shape the future of AI in Australia and beyond.”
Google’s AI First program is just one of 24 accelerator programs that the company is currently running across 87 countries. The accelerators operate in both established startup ecosystems and emerging markets, supporting a diverse range of entrepreneurs and developers.
The programs are designed to be intensive and focused, operating over a three-month period and offering one-on-one mentorship with leading Google and industry experts. Startups set a singular goal during the accelerator and dedicate their time to developing a technical solution for it.
According to Google’s inaugural Accelerator Impact Report, there are now over 1,1000 startup alumni of Google accelerators with a combined portfolio of US$121.5 billion and a valuation of US$30.7 billion.
These companies now employ over 115,000 people worldwide and maintain a 96% survival rate. Twenty of those startups have also hit unicorn status.
Applications for the AI First accelerator are open until July 31, 2024. Australian startups leveraging AI are encouraged to apply to accelerate their growth with Google’s support.
