The success of Samsung’s Galaxy S4 smartphone could see the Korean electronics giant double its worldwide market share lead in the mobile phone market over its next largest rival, a leading analyst predicts.

BGR has republished IHS Research figures showing Samsung held 29% of the global mobile phone market in 2012, a five percentage point lead on Nokia on 24%

The top five were rounded out by Apple (10%), ZTE (6%) and LG (4%).

IHS Research believes that a successful launch by Samsung could see its lead extended to 11 percentage points.

“Combined with a massive worldwide rollout through almost every operator, the lifestyle focus of the S4 will help drive Samsung’s market share sharply in 2013,” IHS analyst Ian Fogg said.
