France Telecom chief executive Stephane Richard has warned Apple that the high price of the iPhone, at $US600 (€460) outright, is scaring off potential consumers.
According to Bloomberg, France Telecom now offers customers a 20 euro per month plan with unlimited calls, texts and 3 GB of data to lure increasingly cost-conscious European consumers, with many opting for a lower cost alternative to the iPhone.
“There are fewer early adopters, and probably with the next release of the iPhone this will be evident,” Richard said.
“Selling a phone for $US600 is getting more and more difficult.
“Customers are more focused on price. Except for a few hundred thousand people who will buy the latest iPhone … the majority of the market will be difficult.”
