Web technologies and smartphone platform maker Mozilla has announced a major showcase for its Firefox OS smartphone platform at the 2014 Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

In a statement, Mozilla says Firefox OS will be the key focal point of its exhibit for the show.

“[Firefox OS] has garnered significant industry support since it was introduced at MWC 2013. Devices have quickly commanded market share in Latin America and gone on sale in 14 markets including nine in Europe, with four operators and three handset manufacturers.

“In addition to demonstrating the current releases of Firefox OS hardware, on devices from ZTE, [Alcatel], and LG, Mozilla also will have advance previews of the next Firefox OS user experience for smartphones.

“Mozilla and its content publishing partners (including LINE, YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, Napster, Aviary, Soundcloud, Pinterest and Evernav) will demonstrate the HTML5 apps that deliver the content and performance that users expect from a smartphone device.”

Aside from Firefox OS, the company will also display its Firefox Marketplace app store and the Firefox web browser for Android.

Key executives from Mozilla will also participate in two events at the show, with chief technical officer Brendan Eich joining a panel discussion on the future of mobile voice communications.

Meanwhile, Mozilla’s chief privacy officer, Alex Fowler, will host a seminar on the role of mobile operating systems in providing privacy choices to users, and the implications for business of privacy app regulation.
