Chief information officers are feeling increasingly optimistic, with many expecting to increase their information and communications technology budgets in 2012, according to a recent survey.

According to an IDC report, titled CIO Priorities: What Keeps the CIO Awake At Night?, CIOs are feeling optimistic about the business outlook over the next six months, with 46% of respondents reporting an increase in their annual budgets over 2011.

More significantly, 18% of CIOs reported a budget increase of more than 10% over their 2011 budgets.

However, there is more pressure on ICT investments to deliver productivity dividends, with 43% of CIOs expecting a positive return on investment within just 12 months, compared to 36% in 2010.
