Power Play: Watch the body language

Power Players know that body language can give them away quicker than anything else.

They control their quirks and mannerisms so that no one knows what they’re thinking until they say it out loud.

Slouch and you look like you’ve already lost. Place your arms akimbo and everyone thinks you are angry. Gaze downwards and it looks like you’re having a crisis of confidence. Look up and you’re either uncertain or just plain lying.

Body language speaks volumes. It can also inspire confidence and show a sense of great calm.

Even when things are going wrong, true Power Players never use their body language to exploit, boss, hurt or humiliate.

Watch your body language in the mirror. Get to understand just how much information your body language can communicate and make certain your body doesn’t betray you.

The story

I am, on occasion, a compulsive hair-twirler. I always have been, ever since I was a little girl.

Anyone who knows me well also knows I do it only when I am completely unhinged and thoroughly unglued.

Every single one of us has a ’tell’, and hair-twirling is mine. So now I keep the hair-twirling to a minimum because my entire body language changes when I do it and it scares the crap out of people.

Better for me to use words to tell them what’s wrong with me (which I am grown up enough to do) than twirl and say nothing.
