Apple has issued an upgrade to its Mac OS-X operating system, as well as a patch for improved RAW image support in Aperture and iPhone, alongside iTunes updates for Windows and Macs.
Issued as both an update and a combo update, Mac OX-X Mavericks 10.9.3 includes improved 4K display support, the ability to sync contacts and calendars with iOS devices over USB and improves the reliability of VPN connections using IPsec.
For Mac users relying on Windows networks, the update improves the reliability of copying, editing and inspecting permissions of files on a Samba (SMB) file server and the login speed for users in Active Directory groups.
The update also improves reliability of network home directories, patches a bug that prevented Font Book installing PostScript Type 1 fonts, and also includes the latest version of the company’s Safari web browser, 7.0.3.
Alongside the OS-X update, the company has also issued an update for Aperture 3 and iPhoto 11 adding RAW image support for a range of additional cameras.
Models supported under the update include the Canon EOS Rebel T5 / 1200D / Kiss X70, Canon PowerShot G1 X Mark II, Nikon D4S and Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX10.
Alongside the OS-X update, Apple has released a patch for iTunes on both Mac OS-X and Windows.
For Mac users, the update fixes a problem that may cause iTunes to quit unexpectedly when a device is connected and improves compatibility with iBooks.
On Windows, the patch fixes problems caused by typing Japanese text in the iTunes Store and closes a second bug that can cause iTunes to crash when a device is connected.
For Mac users, the updates are available through the Software Update option in the Apple menu, with the company also advising users to back up their system using Time Machine before upgrading.
