New research from insurance firm AAMI shows Generation-Y drivers are becoming increasingly distracted while driving due to playing music, taking photos and sending text messages.

New research from insurance firm AAMI shows Generation-Y drivers are becoming increasingly distracted while driving due to playing music, taking photos and sending text messages.

The research shows 71% of drivers under 25 have either sent or received a text message while driving.

MP3 players are also a distraction, with 27% of young drivers saying they have spent time looking at a device rather than the road ahead, up 7% from last year.

But it isn’t all bad – AAMI public affairs manager Geoff Hughes says younger drivers were more likely to limit driving due to greenhouse emissions.

“There is a bit of thought that goes into it and a bit of concern for the damage that is being done to the planet,” Hughes told news.com.au
