Google’s new voice-recognition search tool for the iPhone has just one problem – it doesn’t recognise Australians.
Australian users have noticed searches for the word “iPhone” have returned results for “priceline,” “mustang” or “try again.”
After disappointing results from British and Australian users, Google has said the tool works best with a North American accent.
“I’ve got a traditional Kentish accent and the thing kept on spitting back ridiculous things,” says Roger Ellinson, 26, from Maidstone in Kent, southeastern England.
“I asked it to find my nearest pizza takeaway and it came back with something about volcanoes.”
A test conducted by newspaper Herald Sun found the tool recognised, “supercalafragilisticexpialadocious” but not “fish”, “lunch” or “news”.
