A Queensland man who used his internet connection to play a game with friends went over his download limit set by Telstra, and received a $6000 bill as a result. North Gosford resident Justin Cavanagh and three friends connected their computers to Cavanagh’s Telstra internet connection in order to play a World War II game. But the three friends exceeded the monthly 60GB limit by more than 38GB – and Telstra charged Cavanagh 15c per extra megabyte.
When his next bill arrived in the mail, he was stunned to discover the amount totalled $6041. Cavanagh was also unable to contact Telstra via the standard email inquiry, as his internet was disconnected.
But despite the massive bill, a Telstra spokesperson says it has been waived as a “gesture of goodwill”.
