Mobile phone users will soon be able to access user-edited encyclopedia Wikipedia on their devices after a new partnership with Wikimedia and telco provider Orange.
Users in France, Britain, Spain and Poland will now be able to access content from the Wikimedia Foundation, which includes content on Wikipedia and Wikibooks.
The new partnership also means that the organisations will create new services to share on the Orange network, as well as “Wikipedia” links on sections of Orange web and mobile portals.
“At Orange we are committed to giving people maximum access to the widest range of digital technologies and to simplifying the way people use these technologies to access information,” said Paul-Francois Fournier, Orange executive vice president, in a statement.
“By bringing our customers a new way to access content from Wikipedia, one of the world’s most recognised and popular internet brands, we are delivering on this commitment.”
