Queenslanders are getting smarter, thanks to southerners making the move to the sunshine state.

The Queensland Treasury released a report yesterday revealing that interstate workers have been raising the state workforce’s skill levels.

Those arriving in Queensland in the past 10 years have had a higher rate of tertiary qualification than the home-grown population.

And they are not the grey retirees you might expect. The census data published in the report showed that the largest group of new residents were aged between 25 and 34 years old.

In the past two decades, 41.3% of Queensland’s population growth has come from interstate migration.
