I think that a further issue is that solutions are regularly designed by ‘experts’ that don’t understand both the business (its customers’ needs) plus the unique attributes of the internet.
So if you get your eBusiness solution designed by people who are just technical, or just marketing, you are highly likely to get a poor ROI.
I believe this creates crappy benchmarks in an industry, which have a tendency to ‘anchor’ the solutions that others come up with. It’s sad. Especially as in each industry, early adopters with ‘good’ solutions keep on killing off the un-innovative players. But other industries tend not to notice this.
