There are probably lots of entrepreneurs who would question the value of a staff meeting in a start-up. There is a good argument to say that given there probably aren’t many staff in your business, chances are the team probably know about everything that’s going on anyway.
However, that’s not really the point of a staff meeting. While staff can probably get all their information by gossiping in the kitchen or eavesdropping around someone’s desk, the meeting format allow you to set an agenda and formally discuss a few key issues.
You might prepare for the meeting by sending around an agenda that asks every team member to give a short update on their area, and allows the other team members to comment on any important issues raised.
Then you, as the boss, might say a few brief words about the bigger picture – how the company is travelling from a sort of top-down view.
Then set an issue for discussion. It might be a particular problem you have noticed that needs addressing, or a growth idea you want to flesh out. Whatever it is, open it for group discussion and get everyone involved.
This is only one idea for how a meeting can go. But the point is to bring everybody together where you can all focus on the same thing at the same time.
Get it done, today!
