The 43-year-old owner of a Sydney post office agency has been charged over what police claim is Australia’s biggest postal fraud.
The NSW and Federal Police raided the man’s post office on Kent Street at Millers Point to seize documents and arrest the licensee, Tim Alexander Greenland of Millers Point.
He appeared in Sydney Central Local Court yesterday to face charges, including defrauding the Commonwealth or a public authority, and theft.
It is alleged that he stole $4.2 million in a scam involving the sale of postage stamps and envelopes. Prosecutors allege bulk postage stamps were sold without the stamps actually being stuck on the items posted.
Australia Post has released a statement claiming it was the only victim of the alleged crime and no customers had suffered.
Greenland was denied bail and will reappear in court on October 7.
