Simon Crean will take over Prime Minister Julia Gillard’s portfolios of education, employment and workplace relations as part of a series of minor changes to Gillard first ministry as PM.
Former Prime Minister Kevin Rudd will not be part of the cabinet, but Gillard announced that she would be “delighted” to give him a senior cabinet role if the Government wins the next election.
Stephen Smith will now serve as minister for foreign affairs and trade.
Craig Emerson will retain the small business portfolio, despite his vocal support for Rudd before he stepped down.
