Melbourne beats Sydney in family-friendly cities index

Launceston, Canberra and Toowoomba are Australia’s most family-friendly cities, according to Suncorp Bank’s Family Friendly City Index.

The bank monitors the 30 largest cities in Australia, ranking them according to 10 indicators such as levels of crime, the quality of education, housing, average incomes, unemployment levels and health services.

The highest-ranking state capitals were Adelaide and Perth, which took equal fifth place. Hobart came next, at number 7. Melbourne and Sydney were numbers 14 and 23 respectively.
