Apple has officially unveiled its music streaming service at the Worldwide Developers Conference.

 

The platform, which hopes to compete with the likes of Spotify, will set users back $10 a month, according to TechCrunch.

 

The service will also draw on popular features from other streaming services – such as a free trial and curated playlists.

 

Apple Music will launch on June 30 and will be initially available on iOS, OS X and Windows computers.

 

Connected car startup Vinli raises $US6.5 million in Series A

 

Connected car startup Vinli has raised $US6.5 million in Series A funding in a bid to kickstart growth and get ahead of any potential competitors in the automotive technology space.

 

The round was led by the likes of Samsung, Cox Automotive and other investors.

 

Chief executive of Vinli, Mark Haidar, said in a statement the startup will change how people interact with their cars on a day-to-day basis.

 

“We are honoured to be partnering with one of the world’s largest consumer electronics companies, Samsung; one of the largest auto suppliers, Continental; one of the largest car ownership companies, Cox Automotive; and one of Tesla’s early investors, The Westly Group,” he said.

 

“This diverse group of auto and technology industry leaders believe in our vision and will help us accelerate and shape the future of the connected car.”

 

US quarterbacks to wear VR headsets

 

US football team the Dallas Cowboys will soon use virtual reality technology to train their quarterbacks, according to Re/code.

 

The franchise has struck a two-year deal with virtual reality sports startup StriVR Labs which will see players don VR headsets.

 

The deal shows that virtual reality has a wide range of practical uses. In Australia, a team of students from Swinburne University is developing a way to help dementia carers understand what it is like to live with the disease.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average is up 64.33 points, rising 0.36% to 18,076.27. The Aussie dollar is currently trading at around 77.79 US cents.
