Harvey Norman is to launch an online store within weeks, with executive chairman Gerry Harvey claiming that the retailer has “no choice” but to “cannibalise” sales from its bricks and mortar stores.

 

Harvey, who has been the figurehead of a high-profile campaign to charge GST on overseas online purchases, said that Harvey Norman will have a “pretty sizeable” eCommerce operation by next year, but added: “My heart’s beating very strongly on whether we make any money out of it.”

 

Population growth slowdown to hurt business: Report

 

Australia’s population growth is set to slow, resulting in knock-on impacts to businesses, according to a new report.

 

The PKF Chartered Accountants and Business Advisers report said that as migration rates drop and baby boomers retire, companies will find it harder to attract and retain staff.

 

Dorsey makes Twitter return

 

Jack Dorsey, co-founder of Twitter, is to re-join the company. Dorsey, who departed the micro-blogging site in 2008, will head up product development for Twitter.

 

He replaces fellow co-founder Evan Williams, who has stepped back from his frontline role at Twitter but will remain on its board
