Weak US jobs data sends Australian stocks lower: Afternoon market insights

The Australian sharemarket started the week lower, slumping nearly 1% as it followed offshore leads. At 2.30pm, the ASX200 gave up 0.93% to 4119.3, while the broader All Ordinaries index lost 0.90% to 4161.3. The Australian dollar also softened, buying $US1.0193. The United States added only 80,000 new jobs in June, leaving unemployment at 8.2%.
