According to Stewart Craine, founder of solar-powered lamp supplier Barefoot Power, there is little appetite among Australian investors for social entrepreneurship, despite the sector taking off in the US and UK.
As Craine explains to StartupSmart today, domestic investors “don’t have a strong enough imagination to change the world”.
The same can’t be said of Craine himself, who aims to provide electricity to 10 million of the world’s poorest people within five years. The year may be young, but it’s unlikely that you’ll read a more inspiring start-up tale in 2011.
