Mobile content services in the Asia-Pacific region have grossed US$29.1 billion during the last year and is expected to grow over the next four, according to analysts at Frost & Sullivan.

 

A new market study from the group shows that ring tones and mobile music services are the top earners for mobile content providers, accounting for 21.4% (US$6.2 billion) of all content during 2008. The company expects these two sectors to provide the most revenue over the next five to six years.

Mobile entertainment as a whole, which includes features such as videos, games, wallpapers, graphics and applications such as betting programs, account for 44.4% of all content downloaded (US$12.9 billion) and is expected to grow to US$34.3 billion by the end of 2013.

Frost & Sullivan senior industry analyst Jeff Teh says that mobile content providers across 13 countries in the Asia-Pacific region have grossed about US$29.1 billion during 2008, with revenues expected to record grosses over US$75.6 billion by 2013.

“It has become fairly important for subscribers to accessorise and personalise their mobile devices to differentiate themselves from their peers,” he told ITWire.com.au.
