Speculate no longer, Apple lovers: a hospital in Memphis has confirmed that Apple chief executive Steve Jobs did have a liver transplant two months ago.
Dr James D. Eason, the program director of the Methodist University Hospital Transplant Institute in Memphis, released a statement with Jobs’ permission, which seems at least partly designed to head off any suggestions Jobs may have jumped the queue.
“[Jobs] received a liver transplant because he was the patient with the highest MELD score (Model for End-Stage Liver Disease) of his blood type and, therefore, the sickest patient on the waiting list at the time a donor organ became available,” Eason said.
“Mr. Jobs is now recovering well and has an excellent prognosis.”
Jobs returned to work earlier this week after a six month absence. There has been speculation he may transition to a part-time role in the coming months.
