SanDisk has launched a 32GB SD card designed for use in mobile phones, claiming it is the first product of its kind.
“This is the highest-capacity card of its type, and SanDisk is pleased to be the first to ship such an advanced product,” Sanjay Mehrotra, president and CEO of SanDisk, said in a statement.
The microSDHC will cost about $US200, and is set to hit shelves worldwide within the next month or so. The company is marketing the card for use with heavy data users who take lots of pictures and videos.
SanDisk expects demand for the micro disk to soar, with shipments of mobile phones expected to reach over one billion over the next year, according to Strategy Analytics. Most of these phones will carry support for micro SD cards.
