I had to laugh when I saw this job advertised online recently. It explains in one heading all that is wrong with the misunderstanding that people have about the payroll function.

Finding the right payroll professionals for your team is often a difficult task.  Obviously you need to employ people with the right skills and competencies, with up to date payroll knowledge and someone that will fit in well with your team and your broader company culture. Sometimes it’s tough to find the perfect person.

Many of our clients have told us of their frustration when trying to fill payroll vacancies. Sometimes they are able to capture the perfect candidate from an advertisement on Seek, which is a great outcome for everyone involved. But more often than not, they end up having to engage assistance for the task.

Payroll recruitment isn’t just about plugging holes. If you don’t get the right person, it can have financial and cultural consequences over a lengthy period of time.

Although I don’t think that experience with a particular system should be on the top of your list of required competencies, I do think if your recruiter is going to list your system, they should make sure they understand enough about your payroll operation to get it right.

In the meantime, hello to all our good friends at ADP and PayGlobal!
