According to Springwise, an Illinois-based operation called Mather LifeWays has opened up three cafes around Chicago that offer a pleasant, affordable and social environment for older people to hang out.
The cafes actually form part of a multi-purpose facility that also include a fitness centre, education and wellness classes and health screenings. And like most cafes nowadays, the internet is also available.
As Springwise points out, given the demographic tidal wave that is about to hit as the baby boomers retire, this is an idea that is only going to increase in relevance – and could provide scope for plenty of partnerships between the private and not-for profit sectors.
