The year 2008 has been the year of the smartphones. With the release of Apple’s 3G iPhone, the G1 Google phone and the vast array of BlackBerry devices, touch-screens are taking over the mobile market.

And Finnish group Nokia has confirmed its latest product has started to be delivered – the 5800, which is the group’s first phone with a touch-screen and is its response to Apple’s iPhone.

The group says the phone will soon be available in selected markets worldwide, including Russia, Spain, India, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Finland. The group says the device will cost €279, or $549.

LG Electronics and Samsung have also produced touch-screen phones over the past two years, with the industry moving away from smaller models into larger touch-screen phones with “cloud computing” capabilities.
