Each year, SmartCompany publishes a list of top female business operators, ranked by the estimated revenue of their companies. The combined estimated turnover of businesses on this year’s list is $14.84 billion, jumping well ahead of last year’s $11.7 billion total.
The increase was largely driven by a revenue increase at Gina Rinehart’s Hancock Prospecting in 2017, which jumped by more than $2 billion, compared with 2016’s takings, hitting $4.45 billion last year.
This year also sees new faces on the list, including Telstra Businesswoman of the Year award winner Violet Roumeliotis, who has overseen Settlement Services International into an operation that generates $113.4 million from its services each year with its focus on empowering migrant entrepreneurs.
Where possible, the most recent revenue figures have been confirmed by the entrepreneurs and businesses.
Where that has not been possible, SmartCompany has relied on a variety of sources, including publicly available sources, industry contacts and internal estimates. An asterisk shows where revenue has been estimated.
