Tech giant Apple has told iPhone app developers they cannot create apps which use location-based advertisements.
The company said it will no longer be using apps which use the phone’s GPS in order to distribute location advertising, however, no other reason has been given.
“If your app uses location-based information primarily to enable mobile advertisers to deliver targeted ads based on a user’s location, your app will be returned to you by the App Store Review Team for modification before it can be posted to the App Store,” the company said.
Location-based advertising is designed to find locations and services close to a user’s whereabouts. It is suspected Apple will be on embarking on a location-based ad sweep soon enough, after the $275 million acquisition of wireless ad company Quattro Wireless.
