Dear Aunty,

I am very close to doing a strategic joint venture with another company?in our supply chain. To cut a long story short, during drinks one night the?CEO told me he had a gig as a consultant and he ended up directing?business to a company that he had a share in which he didn’t disclose.

The next day he tried to play it down, so he obviously thought he had?revealed too much. If that was the only problem I could stomach it. But?I have concerns over some of the financials.

The problem Aunty is that?this is a great deal and makes a lot of sense. My board is also very?keen that I pull this off. But while the head says it is only a?strategic joint venture and you go ahead with it, my gut keeps telling?me that I don’t want to be involved with people like this. I don’t even?like going to their offices!

What to do?
Lou

Dear What to do Lou,

It is very good that you are listening to your gut. It is not asking a?question though. It is telling you: don’t do this. Your head has eyes:?and they are only seeing what you want to. Your gut is seeing something?else: that these are people you don’t want to do business with.

Step?back, call in your accountant and decide to discover what is wrong with?the deal: not what is right. In this situation I have always trusted my?gut: and always been proven right.

But then I am Aunty B!

Good luck
