The Department of Education, Skills and Employment (DESE) has announced it will launch a new employment service on July 1, 2022.
Workforce Australia will replace the current Jobactive service, with the goal of offering one portal for all government employment and skills programs and initiatives. The department said it would also be the government brand for employment and skills.
“Consolidating existing employment and skills brands under the Workforce Australia banner will help to identify all the services the Australian government is providing to foster a productive and competitive workforce,” a statement on the department website read.
“Workforce Australia is for all Australians and all Australian businesses.”
A new employment page has been launched on the DESE website, explaining that reforms to the government’s existing model have been tested as part of a trial since 2019.
Workforce Australia centres will offer job seekers with online support to find work, individual case management for those who need it, and a function known as a ‘points based activation system’ that encourages what the department said was a stronger mutual obligation requirements.
The online platform will provide tools, online learning and job-matching services.
“Workforce Australia centres on helping Australians to find and keep a job, change jobs or create their own job, connecting employers with job seekers, and a refreshed network of providers to deliver tailored case management.
“[The new platform] is how we will equip Australians with the skills, training and resources they need to gain sustainable and satisfying employment. And how we will equip businesses with the skilled workers they need when they need them,” the department said.
DESE will be rolling out the Workforce Australia brand over the next 18 months.
