I recently heard an entrepreneur say how much he hates the grind to a group of other entrepreneurs. A lot of people nodded and agreed with him and shared their own dislike for the grind as well.
I looked around the group and noticed that not everyone agreed with them though. You know that look where you can tell they are thinking the opposite and are thinking about expressing their views, but at the same time they don’t want to offend?
There were two females and one male in the group who had this look on their faces.
What was most interesting was these three people had the most successful companies out of the group.
It got me instantly thinking about how there is a direct correlation between how you approach the inevitable grind of business and how successful you become.
You need to love the grind. If you don’t, it will be very hard to achieve big success and even if you do, you might be miserable.
Grinding is a part of being an entrepreneur. The only way you get better at something is to practice. You can view every situation as a potential grind or an opportunity to practice.
There is no such thing as an overnight success; you need to find a way to get a little bit better every day.
Yes, there will be periods that are not as exciting as other periods and you will feel that you are not making progress. Whenever you feel this way I want you to think about a professional tennis player who is hitting ball after ball in training.
They will hit thousands of balls and at first it may seem that they are not improving but suddenly they come out and beat the best player in the world.
How did this it happen? It was not a fluke. They made tiny incremental improvements that over time ended up being a considerable improvement, one that ended up enabling them to beat the best player who may have stopped doing the same grinding practice.
So next time you find yourself hating the grind, you need to spin your mindset around and love the grind.
The love of the grind is what will enable you to keep on improving and achieve the vision that you set out to achieve.
