Retailing pioneer Anita Roddick, who founded The Body Shop, has died after suffering a brain hemorrhage. She was 64.
Roddick was dubbed the “Queen of Green” for her trailblazing environmentally friendly humane business practices. She opened her first Body Shop in 1976 in Brighton, southern England, well before fair trade and eco-friendly businesses were fashionable.
The company grew into a global phenomenon, with nearly 2000 stores in 50 countries. Last year it became part of the French company, L’Oreal Group, but remains independently run.
