Australian unicorn Canva has announced a major platform redesign and a suite of new products geared towards business customers. The ‘glow up’ comes alongside a suite of additional tools as well as a not-exactly-new Enterprise tier aimed at larger organisations.
A new Canva look for a new Canva decade
This is the first time in over a decade that Canva has overhauled its user interface. According to the company, the redesign focuses on improving workflow efficiency and collaboration.
Key new features include a contextual editing toolbar, customisable homepages, and advanced search capabilities.
The changes are designed to help teams navigate projects more easily and maintain brand consistency across their work.
Magic Studio, Canva’s AI offering that was introduced in 2023, also has a mix of new and upgraded toys:
- Magic Media now allows users to generate graphics, icons and illustrations in various styles from a text prompt.
- Magic Design has been enhanced to produce higher-quality presentations, promising a threefold improvement in output quality.
- Resize & Magic Switch enables users to convert any design into different formats, such as video scripts, LinkedIn posts, or presentation outlines, with just a prompt.
- Styles & Layouts feature allows users to apply brand colours and templates across an entire design with a single click.
- Photo Editor can move, remove, or edit objects within an image, akin to editing a Canva template.
- Video upgrades include AI-powered highlights, which select clips from longer videos, and Enhance Voice, which improves audio clarity by reducing background noise.
“New” enterprise subscription
To kick things off Canva has re-introduced “Canva Enterprise,” a subscription tier designed for larger organisations.
While the company is positioning this as a new offering, the name certainly isn’t. Canva Enterprise has been offered by the company for a number of years.
Canva confirmed with SmartCompany that the prior version of Canva Enterprise was transformed into Canva for Teams as it was positioned more as a team solution rather than an organisational offering.
And the marketing at the time certainly supports that. The tagline for the tier from 2019 reads “Canva Enterprise: Teams with more than 20 members” and the 2020 version says “Empower your team, manage your brand, and scale your content all in one place”.
According to Canva, this new version is the first truly enterprise-grade product from the unicorn that offers solutions for entire organisations at scale. It was also already live on site as a soft launch ahead of the official announcement this week.
Some of the enterprise tools include customer integrations, enhanced security and control and dedicated support services.
The tier also boasts an ability to offer at-scale brand management through its new brand kits and more.
“We democratised the design ecosystem in our first decade and now look forward to unifying the fragmented ecosystems of design, AI, and workflow tools for every organisation in our second decade,” Canva co-founder and CEO, Melanie Perkins, said.
Tailored Canva tools for different teams
Canva also introduced tools tailored for specific workplace teams such as marketing, HR, sales and creative departments.
These tools include Canva Work Kits — which provide industry-specific templates — and Canva Courses to support workplace learning.
Some of the templates on offer include:
- Human Resources: Onboarding decks, company newsletters, and job advertisements
- Sales: Pitch decks, sales reports, and sales proposals
- Marketing: Campaign content calendars, social media posts and campaign reports
- Creative: Creative briefs, production request forms, and brand strategy templates.
