A US inventor has come up with the concept of motorised shoes, which could change the way we get ourselves from A to B.
Known as Treadways, the shows are lightweight, wirelessly-controlled and powered by a lithium polymer battery. They can be plugged in at any outlet to be recharged.
They are designed to facilitate access to public transport, and as a more appropriate form of mobility for running errands around town.
“In a world where the default setting is ‘car’, Treadways gives people a reason to get outside to walk and roll,” inventor Peter Treadway says.
“I noticed that many [people] don’t use public transportation because it is just slightly difficult to do so. I figured that if people really enjoyed getting to and from the local train station, they might step up.”
“The solution turned out to be a strap-on device that would allow the wearer to both walk and roll… Treadways came about by using everything that was out there and then by building and using my own prototypes.”
As our cities become more congested and people choose to walk or ride rather than jump in their car, these sorts of technologies will become increasingly popular. Why not develop your own idea?
